Overview of the Book of Acts
There are overarching threads in the Book of Acts. These threads begin in the restated Great Commission about being witnesses for Jesus in our daily journey whether it takes us to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, or the outer parts of the earth. We don't go alone, this is the point of the Holy Spirit and it's gifting to be indwelling in us in Acts Chapter 2. We face the decision of Acts Chapter 4 with Peter and John of who we will obey, or what is right in the eyes of God. Not everyone will have a Saul-type conversion but the results should be similar. Similarly, we become disciples but then become apostles for Christ, or ambassadors. We need confidence and conviction to share the truth. We may not be beaten and left for dead, or treated as a god, but we are called to be teachers of Christ and not only students. There is no graduation because we should be lifelong learners and at the same time teachers of what we know, what we understand, and the hope by which we live. Through the message of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we can impact the world positively for God as we listen, obey, and are guided by God.
